Classes for Children
Most classes are limited to 12 children.   Advance registration is required for all classes with the exception of pre-school art.  All materials are provided unless otherwise noted in class description.  Please make sure your child arrives on time and is picked up at the end of class time.  Children included in Family/Dual level Hockaday memberships receive 10% off of their class/workshop registrations.

SUMMER ART CAMP FOR KIDS

A Hockaday Museum of Art and Kalispell Parks & Recreation collaboration!

 Register for these classes through Kalispell Parks & Recreation HERE.

 

 

Modes of travel through air, on land, and by water is our 2020 summer theme.  Through the eyes of historic artists Leonardo da Vinci, JMW Turner, CM Russell and contemporary artists we will be transported to different locations throughout time.  Scientific and engineering investigations will accompany our artistic journeys as we put some S.T.E.A.M.  (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) into our adventures.

June 23-26

Up In The Sky

Ages 6-12

10:00 am - 12:00 noon

We will be picturing sunsets, painting up a storm, and drawing things that travel through the air.  A little science about air pressure and how things fly will help the kites and gliders we make even better. 

Cost: $55

 

Out Of This World

Ages 8-15

1:00-4:00pm

Explore stars, planets, and galaxies through space travel. Learn about NASA’s space art program.  Do some rocket science, make paintings of other worlds and create a miniature spacecraft.

Cost: $80

 

 

July 21-24

Wheels In Motion

Ages 6-12

10:00 am - 12:00 noon

Be an artist, inventor, and scientist investigating wheeled contraptions.  Paint pictures, make a collage, learn to draw cars, wagons, and even chariots. Design your own wheeled vehicle.  Make and race balloon powered cars.   

Cost: $55

 

Riding The Rails

Ages 8-15

1:00-4:00pm

Picture yourself as a train conductor or engineer.   This investigation into the art and science of railroads includes creating train related art, learning about railroad artists, finding out how steam engines work, operating a telegraph, train whistles, and more.

Cost: $80

 

 

August 11-14

Anchors Away

Ages 6-12

10:00 am - 12:00 noon

Learn about the world of boats, submarines and other watercraft through explorations in art and history.  Draw boats and ships, create a variety of watercraft, have boat races, paint a seascape, and make a submarine sculpture.

Cost: $55   

 

Ships Ahoy

Ages 8-14

1:00-4:00pm

Sail on a high seas adventure to discover maritime art and technologies. Examine art about boats and ships then make your own, learn about navigation, make a compass, design a boat, and make investigations into how different kinds of watercraft work.

 

Cost: $80

Preschool Art Adventures
Ages 2 -5 with a guardian

 
Tuesdays
11:30 AM - 12:00 PM

Using paper, paint, markers, crayons and glue, preschool artists and their adult helpers share fun art projects that encourage creativity and develop basic art skills.

Members Free at Family Membership Level
Non-members $3/child suggested donation

Ages 6 - 15

 Spring 2020 Children's Classes Registration Form

Wednesdays
10:30 AM - 12:00 PM

Learn about the elements of art and the principals of design, visit the galleries for inspiration, and make your own artistic creations.   Each session focuses on a particular theme, artist, or art medium.   Projects include drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, etc. with modifications for beginning and advanced level students.

Cost per session: $7 (Members receive 10% discount)
