Classes for Children
Most classes are limited to 12 children.   Advance registration is required for all classes with the exception of pre-school art.  All materials are provided unless otherwise noted in class description.  Please make sure your child arrives on time and is picked up at the end of class time.  Children included in Family/Dual level Hockaday memberships receive 10% off of their class/workshop registrations.

Preschool Art Adventures
Ages 2 -5 with a guardian

Using paper, paint, markers, crayons and glue, preschool artists and their adult helpers share fun art projects that encourage creativity and develop basic art skills.

Members Free at Family Membership Level

Home School Art Classes
Ages 6 - 15

 

Wednesdays
10:30 AM - 12:00 PM
Students will view original art works on display in the Museum as they learn to use the language of art. Each class session will explore how certain artists use a particular element of art or principal of design. A variety of materials and techniques will be utilized as students create their own art in related hands-on activities. All class materials provided.

Cost per session: $7 (Members receive 10% discount)

A Brush with Time

Tuesdays: January 8, 15, 22, 29

Find inspiration in the art of the masters as we travel through time and art history. Through a series of projects including landscape painting, portraiture, and sculpture, you will put your own spin on the style and subject matter of master artists.

 Cost: $30

 

THe HeART of Color

Tuesdays: February 5, 12, 19, 26

NO boring color wheels allowed. We will focus on fun and amusing ways to use color in artworks. Learn about color mixing with clay, experiment with different kinds of paint, play with colored bubbles, and discover new ways to use colored paper to create art.

 Cost: $30

 

 Egg Decorating

Tuesdays: March 5, 12, 19

Make decorative eggs using beeswax and dyes! With the art of Pysanky (Ukrainian eggs) as our inspiration, you will learn to use a kistka to draw wax lines, make patterns using layers of colored dye and wax, remove the wax and give the egg a coat of varnish to complete it.

 Cost: $30 (includes prepared eggs)

Cancellations & Refunds

  • Due to costs for materials, instructors and staff, the Hockaday Museum has established the following cancellation policy: 100% refund, less $5 administrative fee for cancellation 7 or more days in advance of class; 50% less $5 administrative fee for cancellation 2-6 days in advance. No refund for cancellations made less than 2 days in advance.

  • You may pre-register for classes by calling 406.755.5268. Participant's place in class is guaranteed upon receipt of full payment for the entire series.
  • To ensure the safety and well-being of participating children, the Hockaday requires prior notice of their existing health issues, as well as an emergency contact name & phone number.
  • Art classes are always fun and sometimes messy! Participants are advised to dress accordingly.
