Classes for Children
Most classes are limited to 12 children.   Advance registration is required for all classes with the exception of pre-school art.  All materials are provided unless otherwise noted in class description.  Please make sure your child arrives on time and is picked up at the end of class time.  Children included in Family/Dual level Hockaday memberships receive 10% off of their class/workshop registrations.

Preschool Art Adventures
Ages 2 -5 with a guardian

   
Tuesdays
11:30 AM - 12:00 PM

Using paper, paint, markers, crayons and glue, preschool artists and their adult helpers share fun art projects that encourage creativity and develop basic art skills.

Members Free at Family Membership Level
Non-members $3/child suggested donation

Home School Art Classes
Ages 6 - 15

 

Wednesdays
10:30 AM - 12:00 PM
Students will view original art works on display in the Museum as they learn to use the language of art. Each class session will explore how certain artists use a particular element of art or principal of design. A variety of materials and techniques will be utilized as students create their own art in related hands-on activities. All class materials provided.

Cost per session: $7 (Members receive 10% discount)

Drawing Explorations

Ages 7-14

Tuesdays:  Sept 17, 24, Oct 1

Explore new ways to draw familiar objects and scenes.  Class sessions will concentrate on drawing techniques and creative use of materials such as graphite, charcoal, ink, and colored pencil.   Student interests will be taken into consideration for choosing subject matter

Lines of All Kinds

 Ages 7-14

Tuesdays: Oct 15, 22, 29

Using lines to create art is the focus of this class.   Experiment pens, pencils, and scratchboard to create one of a kind masterpieces.

Color Magic

Ages 7-14

Tuesdays: November 5, 12, 19, 26

In the hands of an artist, color is MAGIC!  Explore hues, tints, and shades while discovering the relationships colors have with each other.  Let your true colors come shining through as you create your own masterpieces.

Holiday Treasures

Ages 7-14

Tuesdays: December 3, 10, 17

Make gifts for family members and artful holiday decorations.   A variety of media and processes will be used in creating these NEW PROJECTS!

Cancellations & Refunds

  • Due to costs for materials, instructors and staff, the Hockaday Museum has established the following cancellation policy: 100% refund, less $5 administrative fee for cancellation 7 or more days in advance of class; 50% less $5 administrative fee for cancellation 2-6 days in advance. No refund for cancellations made less than 2 days in advance. 

Additional Info

  • You may pre-register for classes by calling 406.755.5268. Participant's place in class is guaranteed upon receipt of full payment for the entire series.
  • To ensure the safety and well-being of participating children, the Hockaday requires prior notice of their existing health issues, as well as an emergency contact name & phone number.
  • Art classes are always fun and sometimes messy! Participants are advised to dress accordingly.
