Ann Hanson

Ann Hanson grew up in rural Wyoming and still enjoys the country lifestyle.  She enjoys a panoramic view of the Big Horn Mountains from her studio outside of Shell, Wyoming.  Hanson paints with oils and is noted for her very realistic and highly detailed paintings. She depicts her friends and neighbors doing what they do every day.  “I love capturing the subtleties of day to day life.  I like to think of my paintings as a moment in time.”

“I knew from the earliest time I can remember that I wanted to be an artist.  I would do my work in school and then 'doodle' in every available space on the papers.  I did graphic illustrations for our high school class yearbook.  I then attended two years as a graphic major at Northwest College in Powell, Wyoming.  I learned a lot from my design and drawing classes, but am mostly self-taught as a painter.”

Ann is in several national western art shows including Cowgirl Up! At the Desert Caballeros Western Museum in Wickenburg, AZ;   Small Works, Great Wonders at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City, OK;  Settlers West American Miniatures Show in Tucson, AZ since 2004;    Cheyenne Frontier Days Art Show in Cheyenne, WY. Where she won the People's Choice Award in 2012; the Russell at the C.M. Russell Museum in Great Falls, MT; and The Buffalo Bill Art Show in Cody, WY since 1990 where she has won the William E. Weiss purchase award and the Quick Draw People's Choice Award in 2014;

Ann has been featured in Art of the West, Western Horseman, U.S. Art, American Artist, Wildlife Art, I.M. Cowgirl and InformArt Magazines.  Ann's painting titled “Sharpshooter” was on the cover of Southwest Art Magazine in March, 2006 and her work was featured in Southwest Art in March, 2007.  Her work was also featured in the Summer, 2008 edition of Horses In Art Magazine. In February, 2011 her painting titled “Cayde and CO.” was on the cover of Western Horseman Magazine. Another image, “Diamond X Ranch Girls was featured on the January 2013 cover and “Secrets” was chosen for the September, 2014 Cover of the Magazine.

Ann was recently invited by George Lucas to create a piece of artwork for the newly released book (Nov 2010) Star Wars Art:Visions. This book is a compilation of images from over 100 artists across many genres celebrating our love of Star Wars. Her piece, entitled “On The Hunt” is included in the George Lucas Collection.

“I'm having a great time doing what I love.  I feel truly blessed!”
