Curator's Choice Award
Angel Reve Gonzales
“Shattered Reality” is a mixed media piece whose outside appearance tricks the viewer into believing that the sculpture is composed of bronze; however, one lift will reveal that the work was created with paper mache and ingeniously painted using a process that gives the appearance of oxidized metal. Angel says that “this piece was based on how I feel and music influences help bring it to life. I was inspired by a Spanish painter, Maria Blanchard. Her paintings had those lovely soft curves to sharp, hard edges that fit so well together.” Ms. Gonzales is a student in Josh Mohler’s art class at FHS, and receives a cash award of $100 as well as a one year Hockaday Museum membership.

People's Choice Award
Heather Luedke
The People’s Choice Award was captured by Heather Luedke for “Elephant Dust Storm”, a 15” x 13” watercolor painting inspired by nature and her grandmother. Heather is in her Senior year at Whitefish High School, studying art with Mr. Collinsworth. Heather says “I grew up around my grandma painting and as soon as I was old enough to learn, she began to teach me. Now, every time I paint, I am reminded of her. I chose to paint this piece because nature is something that is very important to me.” Heather receives a one year membership to the Hockaday.
