About the Exhibit
Artists B. Rex Stewart and Jeff Troupe share a love for the outdoors and were drawn to the Flathead for its rugged beauty and endless inspiration for their paintings. Both Stewart and Troupe paint primarily outside and use bold color and brushwork to create vibrant and energetic paintings. Although their styles are distinct, they are very complementary. Flathead on Canvas brings together these two artists and their unique ways of seeing the Flathead Valley to a single show.
Stewart’s and Troupe’s exhibition aims to depict what makes the Flathead unique, and is a celebration of the things that make us feel most at home here.
About the Artists
B. Rex Stewart explores the Flathead, discovering scenic places, engaging with local communities and learning the history of the land. He brings the energy and spirit of each location into his paintings, and has refined his skills by working out in the field, painting with a limited palette, and working around the elements, from hornets to catapulting canvasses, summer storms, and all that goes along with the adventure of Plein Air painting.
Jeff Troupe finds inspiration for his work in unexpected places. He enjoys working on location and can be found painting historic towns, Victorian homes and aging mills and barns. The built heritage of the Flathead has so much charm and is a big part of what makes our community so special and Troupe is able to capture that in his works with a direct, vibrant, and authoritative feel.
